My first visit to this shop will definitely not be my last: I took in my VW TDI for a full synthetic oil change and tire rotation. Having experienced problems in the past--at other auto service shops--with the special oil filters, I phoned ahead of time to ask if they had my filter in stock. Once verified they had it, I arrived promptly as they opened their doors. Receiving a greeting from the many employees there, I was immediately written up and advised I had about an hour wait, so I settled in at the counter in front of one of their complimentary use iPads, with a fresh cup of Starbucks coffee. About an hour later, I was informed that the filter that was currently on my car was different than their system showed should be used. Rather than replace the filter with something different than what was currently installed, the shop manager advised me they had to order a different filter from a parts warehouse and that the wait would be about 90 minutes. My initial frustration with having the wrong part was put to bed when I realized they were simply looking out for the health of my vehicle by ensuring the same part went back on, despite there being a slight difference in the style of filter (thanks, German auto engineers, for the finicky part compatibility). So I helped myself to another cup of coffee and settled in for a while. Less than 80 minutes later, the shop manager brought me the new filter and told me they would be finishing the oil change, and comping me the tire rotation for my troubles. One cup of coffee later, and my car was delivered to the front of the store, where the shop manager told me that, in addition to the tire rotation, he was also giving me a discount for my military service (having seen my Navy Veteran plates) and I would soon be on my way. Once rung up, I was given a coupon for a free car wash at a local drive through car wash (WashBoys), and given a bill for less than $80 out-the-door. From the friendliness of the staff, to the accouterments of the waiting area, this shop far exceeded my expectations. Although this car will soon be returned to VW as part of the "DieselGate" recall, if I ever have a need for automotive repair, this shop will be my first choice. Anyone else looking for an honest garage should look no further than this one. The fact they honor military veterans is a huge feather in their cap. Thank you, Service First. I've found a new auto shop.
